The Uganda Police Force, commonly known as the UPF, has formally expressed grave concerns and issued a significant warning regarding impending budget reductions. These proposed cuts, according to the UPF, could severely jeopardize their capacity to execute essential and critical operational duties across the nation. Specifically, the police leadership has highlighted that a substantial decrease in their non-wage budgetary allocation, a component slated for a significant reduction of Shs43 billion, is poised to have far-reaching negative repercussions. This financial constraint is expected to directly impact vital aspects such as adequate personnel staffing levels, the quality and frequency of officer training programs, and the crucial maintenance of essential police equipment and infrastructure, ultimately threatening the force’s ability to maintain law and order effectively and ensure public safety.
