The Electoral Commission, Uganda’s apex body for electoral management, has today issued a stern condemnation regarding the violent clashes that regrettably transpired on December 6th. These disruptive incidents occurred during a crucial campaign event for presidential aspirant Robert Kyagulanyi in Gulu City. The Commission unequivocally warned that such acts of violence severely undermine the extensive national efforts dedicated to fostering peaceful and orderly campaigns ahead of the 2026 general elections. Emphasizing the critical need for stability and the integrity of the democratic process, the EC further urged all political candidates, their ardent supporters, and the various security agencies responsible for public order to actively prioritise dialogue and peaceful engagement as the foundational approach to resolving any potential disagreements or tensions throughout the electoral period. This call underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring a tranquil and fair electoral environment for all stakeholders.
