Nathan Nandala Mafabi, a prominent figure within the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, has recently made a significant pledge aimed at bolstering the livelihoods of boda-boda riders across Uganda. During a public address held in Adjumani district, Mr. Mafabi vowed to implement a program that would provide motorcycles to these essential transport operators at a highly subsidized and accessible price point of just two million Uganda Shillings each. This initiative is designed with a flexible repayment structure, allowing beneficiaries to pay for their motorcycles over an extended period of five years, thereby easing the financial burden and promoting sustainable ownership. In his address, the FDC stalwart also took the opportunity to strongly condemn what he described as exploitative loan systems currently prevalent in the country. He expressed deep concern over predatory lending practices and high-interest credit schemes that often trap ordinary Ugandans in cycles of debt, hindering their economic progress. Mr. Mafabi underscored the critical importance of fostering genuine economic empowerment for all citizens, reiterating his vision for an inclusive growth model. He stressed the necessity of ensuring that national development benefits all segments of society, promoting an equitable distribution of opportunities and resources to build sustainable livelihoods for every Ugandan.
