Parliament Approves Excise Duty Hike on Fuel Products

In a significant legislative development coming out of the August House, the Parliament of Uganda has officially granted its approval for a notable increase in the excise duty levied on both petrol and diesel. According to the latest reports, motorists and fuel consumers across the nation should prepare for an additional cost of Shs200 per litre at the pump. Providing further clarity on the government’s fiscal strategy regarding this adjustment, Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, addressed the assembly to explain the underlying rationale for the measure. The Minister emphasized that this strategic decision is intended to serve the broader economic objectives of the state, as the government moves forward with its current budgetary framework.
