The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda, widely known as the IRCU, has officially and unequivocally declared its strong rejection of the newly proposed legislative measure identified as the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026. In a formal statement issued to the public, the council issued a stern warning regarding the potential implications of this draft legislation, emphasizing that it poses grave and serious risks to the fundamental principles of religious freedom across the nation. Furthermore, the leadership of the council expressed deep-seated concerns that the bill, if allowed to be passed into law in its current form, would severely undermine the existing civic space and threaten the essential constitutional rights currently enjoyed by all citizens of Uganda.
