Civil society organisations operating across Uganda have issued a stern warning, highlighting a growing concern that the nation’s democratic principles are increasingly jeopardised. They attribute this escalating risk directly to the pervasive commercialisation of political activities, which they contend is fundamentally undermining the integrity of the electoral process. In response, these organisations are urgently calling for significant legislative reforms. Their primary demand is the immediate regulation of campaign financing, stressing the absolute necessity for these crucial changes to be enacted well before the country’s next general elections scheduled for 2026, to safeguard the future of Uganda’s democracy.
