The government of Rwanda has issued a strong statement, firmly rejecting any responsibility for the recent and concerning escalation of violence that has gripped the South Kivu region in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Kigali’s officials have unequivocally distanced themselves from the renewed hostilities, asserting their non-involvement in the ongoing conflict. Furthermore, the Rwandan administration has vociferously condemned what it describes as deliberate and flagrant violations of the recently negotiated Washington Accords. These critical peace agreements, designed to foster stability in the volatile Great Lakes region, are alleged by Rwanda to have been intentionally breached by both the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Burundi, actions that Rwanda views with serious concern regarding regional peace and security.
