Today marks a somber anniversary in the modern history of Uganda, as we reflect upon one of the most devastating events to ever unfold within our borders. It was on this very date back in 1998 that the nation was plunged into deep mourning following a brutal and senseless attack carried out by Allied Democratic Forces, commonly known as the ADF rebels. The target of this horrific assault was the Uganda Technical College, Kichwamba, situated in the Kabarole District, an institution that became the site of an unimaginable tragedy. During this violent incursion, the lives of 80 innocent students were tragically cut short, leaving families and the entire country in a state of profound grief. Furthermore, the chaos of the attack resulted in the abduction of more than 100 other students, whose fates remained uncertain in the wake of the raid. As we broadcast this update on Radio Ankole 99.3 FM, we take this moment to solemnly remember the lives lost and the enduring pain caused by this dark day in our collective national memory.
